Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. Thank you for visiting. In August of 2021, my dad was diagnosed with incurable and inoperable liver cancer. Medically, this is called Hepatocellular Carcinoma and it is very difficult to diagnose early, as there are no warning signs. He was having some general abdominal pain and went in for tests and scans, which showed a large tumor. The tumor on my dad's liver was treated with chemotherapy until the end of December, which is when we shifted to palliative and hospice care in his and my mom's home in Standish, ME. It's important to know that this is in the top 3 most prevalent cancer diagnoses in the world and to our sadness, there is no cure. My dad could not have been any healthier, could not have found it any earlier, or could have done anything different to avoid it. Our doctors, nurses and social worker have been amazing through this difficult process and we are grateful my dad can stay comfortable at home during this journey. So many friends, family and loved ones have reached out for support, and we are thankful. My dad is thankful. We'll be using this website to keep you updated, as my dad is trying to preserve his daily energy. If you know us, you know we have a HUGE and loving family and support system, and we know everyone wants to reach out and stay in touch. Please understand that John may not be able to answer all calls and messages, but he appreciates the reach and is comforted that everyone cares so much. We laugh thinking about how many people ACTUALLY LIKE my dad enough to keep calling! We love you so much and hope that you understand our wishes at this time. We will let you know exactly what you might be able to offer at any given time. We welcome messages, stories and reminders of all of the fun and funny times we've had together.
