I went in for routine ultrasound at 36.5 weeks to check to make sure everything was good for a VBAC. My OB dr called after ultrasound to say that his head was measuring small and abdomen was measuring big due to an enlarged spleen and liver. She didn’t know what it was and had already called to get me an appt with high risk/maternal fetal med dr for more in depth ultrasound. So we got in to see them and they confirmed what OB saw and told us that worst case scenario is that he has cytomegalovirus (CMV) that is causing it. It’s a virus that I somehow contracted and can be transferred to him. Supposedly many people have this virus and do not show any symptoms but is not good for babies. They normally can catch this early and could do test on me to confirm but since it’s so late in pregnancy it will take too long. So we have waited until he got here to do test and figure for sure what exactly it is. Possible problems could be hearing loss and developmental delays, all of which we could possibly have to wait know what the affects are.  Maxen Ryan Walter was born by scheduled csection Feb 1 at 11:47 am weighing 6 lbs 4 oz and 19” long. He stayed in NICU for 13 days and was confirmed to have CMV.  For more information https://www.nationalcmv.org
