Maureen and Durland were out on a motorcycle on Sunday, October 9, 2016 in Charleston. This was after Hurricane Matthew had passed through and, as a result of the storm, many stoplights were not operating correctly.  While passing through an intersection, they hit the side of a car that was crossing in front of them.  Both suffered head injuries, Durland a fractured skull, and Maureen a fractured skull and significant bleeding and swelling in her brain.    Gratefully, neither suffered any other broken bones.  Durland has been released and is recovering; Maureen had surgery immediately to relieve pressure, and has now had a second surgery to relieve continued swelling and bleeding..
