Welcome to our CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends and family updated. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement during this time when it matters most.
At noon on Wednesday 4/20/16, Maureen was walking across a crosswalk by her office directly in front of the courthouse. It's the same route she has taken for 30+ years. A car stopped in the crosswalk and Maureen waved to thank them and started on her way. It was then that for some unknown reason, the driver accelerated, hitting her. A wonderful stranger saw it happen and rushed to sit with her and hold her hand, reassuring her. His name was Paul. Thank God for Paul! Her good friend Donna came upon the scene, as they were supposed to be having lunch together in just a few minutes. She saw the firetrucks and police and then she realized it was Maureen. She rode in the ambulance with her. Thank God for Donna! She stayed with Maureen until two of her daughters could get there and then stayed to be sure Maureen was stable. Maureen was taken to a shock trauma hospital. She has extensive injuries to her left leg. She had surgery that same day on her broken ankle and surgery the Friday after on her broken knee. The surgeon proclaimed both surgeries a success! Miraculously, Maureen does not have any other injuries! She has been very weak and exhausted since the accident. Her entire left leg is in a cast. Physical therapy came to help her sit up Saturday 4/23. This took a lot out of her but she did it! They arrived the following day to help her stand! It was brief but she did it! She has been nauseous and light headed due to having difficulty eating and due to all of the pain medicine. Her pain is being managed fairly well as of now. We are told she has a week left at the hospital and about 2 weeks in an acute rehab facility. We have full faith and confidence that she will make a full recovery and be back to her energizer bunny self in no time!
