Welcome to Maura Allison’s CaringBridge website. For many of you reading this page, you know our dear mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, coworker was dealt quite a blow recently when she learned she was diagnosed with breast cancer. We (friends Siobhan and Rachel) are setting up this site so that you can receive updates about Maura’s condition and her road to recovery. The bad news? It’s a detour on Maura’s road map that she’ll have to stay on for some time as she goes through various treatments to eradicate the cancer. The good news? The cancer is considered to be a stage 1 variety which is about the best news a patient can get when it comes to hearing the dreaded “c” word. Maura will beat this; of that there is no doubt!
The first thing Maura wants you all to know is that she is humbled by your outpouring of love and support. The cards, care packages, prayers and phone calls and visits, along with everything else her “tribe” has done for her since she was dealt this blow are so very much appreciated. Maura is working with a great team of doctors at Northwestern/Delnor in Geneva. Her first procedure will be a lumpectomy, which is scheduled for this upcoming Wednesday, April 10. She will be home from school for a few weeks afterwards. Additionally, she will be receiving radiation, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy treatments; the timing on those treatments is tentative, and we will be sure to update you on them as the timeline becomes more definite.
