Welcome to our CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends and family updated. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement during this time when it matters most. This all began 5/21/15.  Let's back up, we started noticing changes in Feb.  Wasn't sleeping, losing weight, loss of energy....there were many things to explain this all away but then the shoulder pain began.  He was taken by ambulance due that pain on 5/21.  The ER did a scan and our lives were changed forever.  He was admitted and a liver biopsy was done.  It was determined he had colon cancer that had spread to his liver.  We were going to remove the colon cancer and go to Sloan Kettering for liver port.  When the Savannah surgeon went in he saw the cancer had spread to the peritoneum, lining of the abdomen that hold all your organs in place.  He closed him up and said he had 1-2 years with no chemo, 2-3 with.  We were devastated to say the least!  SK was no longer an option.  But we pushed on.  He started chemo.  He did 12 rounds every other week for 3 days.  It was difficult.  It tested Matt as well as myself beyond what we could ever have imagined.  But we got through it!  We celebrated and took time off with family and friends.  The last scan showed the colon was all clear!  Liver was improving greatly too.  So we had to assume the peritoneum was responding too.  So away to NYC we went on 12/30.  They felt Matt was a great candidate for liver port!  Surgery was yesterday and all went fantastic!  Spots on abdomen are dead, the ones that were tested, and removed.  Port for liver was put in as well as another that will do a wash over peritoneum.  Gallbladder and appendix were removed.  He's in pain but he's going to be good.  We are so hopeful!  Please continue to follow us here for easier updates.  Thank you for the prayers and ALL that you do.  We couldn't get thru this without the love and generosity of our family, friends, and even people we hardly know!  God bless!
