On Sunday, September 12, Matthew was fixing a fallen brick mailbox. The tractor that was holding the mailbox slipped; its bucket hit Matthew pinning him to the ground

Matthew was rushed to Memorial-Hermann hospital. The severity of the injury was quickly determined. His spinal cord was severed at the 12T vertebrae.

He will have surgery on Monday to stabilize his spine and ensure there is no further damage. He will then transfer to a rehabilitation and therapy center where he will be for several weeks.  His injury is permanent, unless there are some breakthrough stem cell or other regenerative treatments developed.

A few short hours after his diagnosis, and the reality that he would not have use of his legs, Matthew was discussing the changes we would need to make to his boat, Ranger and other toys to allow him to continue the life he lives so well!. His unbelievably positive attitude and the support of his family and friends will no doubt result in as positive an outcome as possible, given this very severe injury.  We give him and his family all of our love, prayers, best wishes and strength.
