Our journey started on October 15th, 2014, when Matteo went to a fun Junior Youth evening and had a fall. Two days later he started throwing up and the family doctor said it was stomach flu. On Saturday, the 18th, he started passing blood in the urine (hematuria) and we went to Richmond Hospital twice with him, but the doctor's couldn't find anything wrong. On Sunday, the 19th, we went to Children's Hospital Emergency, where after 9 hours without a clue, he was admitted. We spent 32 days as inpatients. It took them 3 ultrasounds and one CT Scan to find out that he had stage 3 Wilms tumour in his kidney. The Oncology, the Urology and the Nephrology teams at Children's are incredibly amazing, and his treatment started on November 17th, after 3 very successful surgeries. We thank the Lord Jesus for bringing to light what was hidden and intended for death. Now Matteo has a 99% chance of being healed! Praise the Lord for he is doing well in his treatment and we are always reassured by the teams that soon he will have his life back.

We decided to have this page with Caring Bridge to bring awareness to Wilms Tumour. Although it is one of the most treatable and curable cancers, it is a silent killer. Matteo was completely asymptomatic, and if it wasn't for his fall and hit to his stomach, we would have been telling a quite different story here. Nossa jornada teve início no dia 15 de outubro de 2014, quando o Matteo foi participar de um passeio divertido, à noite, com os Juniores da igreja e teve uma queda. Dois dias mais tarde, ele começou a vomitar e o nosso médico de família disse que era gastroenterite. No sábado, dia 18, ele começou a apresentar sangue na urina (hematuria) e o levamos duas vezes ao Hospital de Richmond, mas os médicos não conseguiam encontrar nada de errado. No domingo, dia 19, fomos ao pronto-socorro do Hospital Infantil, onde após 9 horas sem ter ideia do que acontecia, ele foi internado. Foram 32 dias de internação. Foram necessárias 3 ultrasonografias e uma tomografia computadorizada para descobrirem que ele tinha o tumor de Wilms, no estágio 3, no rim. As equipes de oncologia, de urologia, e de nefrologia no Hospital Infantil são inacreditáveis de maravilhosas. e o tratamento começou no dia 17 de novembro, após 3 cirurgias bem-sucedidas. Agradecemos ao Senhor por trazer à luz o que estava oculto e intencionado para a morte. Agora o Matteo apresenta uma chance de 99% de ser curado! Louvamos ao Senhor por ele estar indo bem no tratamento e sermos sempre assegurados pelas equipes de que logo ele terá a vida dele de volta.

Decidimos fazer esta página com a Caring Bridge para levantar a conscientização sobre o tumor de Wilms. Apesar de ser um dos tumores mais tratáveis e curáveis, é um que mata silenciosamente. O Matteo estava completamente assintomático, e se não fosse pela queda e pelo pancada na barriga dele, estaríamos contanto uma história completamente diferente hoje.
