Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting. Approximately 4 weeks ago, Matt began having symptoms he felt were consistent with an URI. He had fevers and low energy and sweating at night. He flew home from California to be with us and seek medical care. After a grueling set of medical tests, a CT scan revealed that Matt's liver was overcome with several abscesses and his appendix was twice the normal size. A procedure where they insert a drain in the liver told the MD that it was infection vs cancer and they proceeded with the placement of 2 drains in the largest abscesses and later that day an appendectomy. The treatment plan will consist of serial CT scans to check the status of the abscesses and placement of larger drains or new drains. So far Matt has had 2 such procedures. He has had a PICC line placed for several weeks of IV antibiotics. He will likely be discharged from the hospital when the infection is under control. He is currently inpatient at Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville.
