I am struggleing even with the words to know how to tell Mom's story.  For those who know her personally, you know what a strong, unrelenting, vibrant, extremely passionate, loving women Matilda is and was!  Now we, as a family, are facing the future, knowing she will not be with us here on this earth forever.  Our desire is to keep you all aware of her updates and to ask you to keep her and her family in your prayers as we walk through this journey!


Mom is now 92 years old and will be 93 on Feb 7, 2021.  She is still living at home in NY in an apartment in the home of her youngest daughter, Mary Jane, and her son in law, Derek.  She has been having increasing challenges with her mobility and short term memory in these last several years.  This has never dampened her spirit of gratefulness and undying love for her family! There is never a phone call where she doesn't express her absolute love for me, her children,  her grandchildren and even her great grandchildren!  In fact, that is about the extent of our conversation these days!  Whenever Mom is awake. there is constantly a song on her lips, at times it is just a whisper, and under her breath,  expressing her love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her desire to go "Home to see the King"!


Several weeks ago, when following up on some sudden back pain she was experiencing, she was diagnosed with a couple compression fractures in her back.  Over these last few weeks, she has progressed to now losing pretty much all ability to be mobile.  Mary Jane and Derek are doing an awesome job of providing and coordinating her care and with the help of several caregivers, someone is with her around the clock.  We have witnessed a decline in her overall health status and in an effort to keep everyone informed of her updates, we are setting up this site.


Galen, her oldest son, lives nearby and is able to be very involved also.  Don, her second son, is living in Alaska and I, Carolyn, living in Oregon, are trying to be as much of a support as we can from a distance.  With all the restrictions we find ourselves in right now, it is with much heartache that we feel the constraints and strain of the miles separating us!
