Mary started this journey six long years ago with a routine knee replacement. After reinjuring her knee and having five additional surgeries to try to correct the problems, an untreatable staph infection set in. Mary's team of trusted doctors told her "it's your leg or your life" and she chose life. On November 14th Mary had a partial amputation above her right knee.
Although Mary's faith is strong and her attitude good, this journey will be an extreme lifestyle change for her. She has begun the long process of healing and will need to learn new ways to get around. She will spend weeks at a transitional care facility, be fitted for a prosthetic leg, and will need to have her car adapted to include hand controls. As you can probably imagine, these out-of-pocket expenses for Mary are considerable.
