Welcome to Mary’s CaringBridge website.  We are using this site to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your prayers, support and words of hope and encouragement.  Please feel to use Well Wishes and comments on Journal Entries to send prayers and messages to her and her family.  Your prayers, support and words of encouragement make a huge difference and appreciate more than you will ever know! Mary was diagnosed with Heart Failure in May. The doctors tried to manage with medication, but she was still having trouble breathing and her health was declining.  She was transported to Baylor Scott & White Heart Hospital in Plano, TX on June 14th.  Nationally ranked heart care, 3-star rating, which is one of the most sophisticated and highly regarded overall measures of quality in healthcare, places Baylor Scott & White Heart Hospital – Plano among the most elite for cardiac surgery in the United States and Canada.

She had an Impella put in, temporarily. The Impella pulls blood from the ventricle and pushes it out into the aorta, delivering oxygen-rich blood to the rest of your body. This allows your heart to rest. She’s been intubated since she arrived to help with her breathing.  After being intubated for over 14 days the doctors recommend a HeartMate 3 LVAD, they removed the Impella and implanted the HeartMate 3 LVAD   on Friday July 1st, the surgery went well. The HeartMate 3 LVAD is a kind of artificial heart pump. It is used to treat people with severe heart failure and is sometimes given to people on the waiting list for a heart transplant.  She will have a normal life with the LVAD, the only thing she can’t do is swim. We know she would not be doing that anyway. It’s totally up to Mary when she feels better if she wants to be put on the heart transplant list.

On July 5th the doctors are going to try to extubate her and perform a tracheotomy, this is only temporary to help with her breathing.  With this procedure she will be able to communicate and not be so heavily sedated or intubated anymore.

Mary is going to need our support more than ever; she’s got a long journey ahead of her. We’ve set up a GoFundMe to help with some of her medical expenses.
