Mary K. was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome, a form of blood cancer commonly known as MDS, in October 2019.  The diagnosis came after several years of unusually low blood cell and platelet counts, a routine gall bladder surgery in April 2019 that led to severe bruising and required a blood transfusion, and then finally a head wound in July 2019 -- possibly caused by a simple bug bite --that failed to heal and worsened to where Mary K. had to spend time in a Lincoln hospital. Mary K. has been undergoing chemotherapy through the UNMC's Buffett Cancer Center in Omaha and is set to get a stem cell transplant in October. Her one and only daughter, Beth, donated her stem cells for Mary K. after enduring a week of shots and other preparations. Her recovery from the transplant is expected to take months and we have set up this page to help keep those who love her informed of her progress.  Thank you all for your love, prayers and support.
