Friends, thank you so much for your love and care and prayers for our mom, Mary John.  We will keep this site updated as much as we can as a central place for everyone to get updates and share messages that we will read to her now and she will be glad to read herself soon.

Last week, she had a series of symptoms that sent her to urgent care on Sunday.  They sent her on to Iredell Memorial Hospital for infection.  She had some fluid on her lungs and infection in her bloodstream, so as a precaution they put her in ICU Sunday night.  Mid-day Monday her condition worsened fairly quickly, and they airlifted her to Carolinas Medical Center, a higher level center, and the place where she had her previous surgeries.  They have been running various tests and treating her infection in the ICU at CMC and giving her very good care.  They have been looking for the source of the infection while also treating the effects.  She is resting peacefully, and her stats are generally improving.

Today, they identified the bacteria, which helps them tailor the antibiotics to treat it.  In terms of the source, many things are ruled out, and they are pursuing treatment for possible culprits.  She does not seem to be in pain, and they are caring for her well.

Our aunt, Ruth Ann, a physician and our treasured companion, is with us, and the three of us trade off staying with mom, so we are with her constantly.  We are grateful to have a room across the street at the Hospitality House of Charlotte, where we can take turns sleeping, resting, etc.  WE are thankful for other family members caring for our children and others caring for our responsibilities while we are here, and we are all grateful for the strong leadership at the church in her absence.  She has expressed great confidence in them at every point.

We know your prayers and your love uphold her.  She has come through many difficult trials before, and she felt a sense of confidence and trust because of her faith and her tenacity, even as she faced the discomfort and uncertainty of this episode.  We read her your messages everyday, and know that your love, her faith, and God’s presence and power sustain her.

Please continue to pray for healing and the recovery process.  She is strong, and God is stronger!

There will likely be ways you can help in the coming weeks or months, but for now, just prayers….and more prayers…  We will also continue to read her your messages of support, so write away!  We know she hears and values them.

Visitors are limited in ICU, so for now, just pray for her.  Thank you so much, Christi (and Mary Allen)
