We opened this site in June 2018 when Mom fell and suffered spinal compression factures, was hospitalized and then went went through rehabilitation before returning to independent living at Brookdale Wornall Place in Kansas City.

On 12/16/22, Mom fell again. X-rays showed a compression fracture. After a short hospital stay and a few weeks at a rehabilitation center, Mom returned to the senior residence where she has lived since Dad died in 2010,  although in a different apartment that provides assisted living support. Mom remains resolute and determined and wants to do as much on her own as she can. Over time, as you might expect, her abilities have diminished. Various family members have provided support with visits, errands, and necessary tasks, including arrangement for hospice care and partial-day caregivers.

Mom's Catholic faith has been a touchstone of comfort for her.  An image of Divine Mercy is in her room, and apostolic blessings from most popes since Pope St. John XXIII adorn her living room. She wears a scapular, receives Holy Eucharist regularly, and is visited by the Sisters, Servants of Mary, a religious order befriended by Mom and Dad more than 50 years ago. Prayers are welcome.

Please feel free to add a greeting, comment or prayer. We will make sure she hears them.  john
