Mary (MaryGene to her cousins and kin) was diagnosed with Esophageal Cancer in May, 2018. Mary has gone through treatments that included 5 weeks of radiation (5 x a week) and Chemotherapy (1 x a week). Her family and friends helped greatly in bringing her to and from appointments and we are so grateful.
Now that treatments are completed, Mary is trying to regain her strength, which is difficult since her throat is closed due to the tumor. She cannot eat and is currently being fed intravenously. She has recently gained some strength, is sitting up and walking.
We are praying for the tumor to shrink. The doctors have said the radiation and chemo in her system can still affect it. The main goal and prayer request is for her to eat on her own so she can gain weight and strength quickly.
She has been so strong through all of this, but as you can imagine, it has been hard. Thank you to all who have jumped in to help in so many ways.
Mary is currently in the hospital (St. Joseph Mercy Hospital - Oakland) because of some complications that are being resolved. Thank God! Once she is stronger she will be prepared to recover at home.
Please stay in touch to see updates about upcoming needs and visiting Mary in the near future.
Thank you and love,
Mary and her family,
April, Noah and A.J., Lily, Vivy, and Maliyah Michael, Chuck and Jan
