Around the end of June, Mary started to notice problems with remembering words. She was also not speaking as clearly as usual. With some prompting, she got an appointment with her doctor on July 6th. The doctor confirmed changes in her memory, balance and gaze tracking and directed us to the Lake Forest Hospital ER. An initial CT scan showed three tumors in her frontal lobe. She was admitted and further testing was completed. The diagnosis following all the tests was an aggressive brain cancer, glioblastoma. This is the same brain tumor Senator John McCain has; the difference being that Mary is not pursuing any course of treatment. Anyone who knows Mary, knows she has faced head-on many challenges in her life. Mary is maintaining her sense of humor and her Independent spirit.
