Welcome to our CaringBridge website for Mary Anne. We are using it to keep her family and very dear friends updated in one place. We regret not having Mary Anne's site up sooner but we have all been busy helping her in her journey with this illness that no one ever expected or could have predicted. We appreciate your support and please send her words of hope and encouragement. She loves hearing from everyone. Thank you for visiting.
Mary Anne was diagnosed with Endometrial Cancer in March of 2016. She was successfully treated for it with surgery, and her cancer was considered Stage 1A. She had a good spring and summer with a trip to Scotland and visits with friends and family. In September 2016 she began experiencing pain in her lower back, and after a series of visits to Dr.s learned that she had a tumor at the base of her spine. Her cancer had metasticized to other parts of her body including but not limited to her breasts, bones and lung. In November Mary Anne had 10 radiation treatments. She was just beginning her chemotherapy on December 12th when a brain tumor was found through MRI. On Wednesday, December 14th she had surgery to remove the tumor at UNC Neuro Science Hospital, and on Friday December 16th she had a 2nd brain surgery to stop a bleed at the site of the tumor. The brain surgeries left her paralyzed on her left side without the ability to swallow.
Mary Anne came back to her home on December 27th and is in the care of Hospice. She has regained her ability to swallow and in one week from returning home is again eating solid food. Her paralysis remains. She has round-the-clock care from a local home health agency and is surrounded by those closest to her. She has retained her sense of humor, her sharp mind and her very kind heart. She is being very brave. Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers for her.
