I believe Mom's journey started on February 2nd with a trip to the orthopedic urgent care for severe knee pain. Larry took her in and she received a cortisone shot in her knee. She was doing pretty for about a week and then the pain moved to her hip. On Sunday February 18th, Larry and Dad took Mom to Sanford ER in Aberdeen. They thought it was bursitis in her hip, however blood counts were off and they would not let her go home even though feeling less pain and doing pretty well. On February 20 they did a bone marrow biopsy. Then on February 21st we were given the news that she has Leukemia. Mom was transported to Mayo Clinic on February 22nd. Upon arrival she has been put through a battery of tests again and today February 23rd they will repeat the bone marrow biopsy. We will not know the exact type of leukemia for 10-14 days. However, the first round of treatment is the same. Chemo will begin tomorrow (February 24) and Mom will be at Mayo for the next 4-5 weeks.
As we all know, Mom is a fighter! She will have to use that strength now more than ever. We have a great support system.
I will try to update here as we know more throughout each day.
