On Saturday, May 21 we were just about to sit for a 6pm dinner at a friends wedding when the water broke. We quickly left the reception and headed to the hotel to pack up and then headed to the nearest hospital. The hospital confirmed my water was broke and they gave me a medicine to slow everything down. At 34 weeks gestation they wanted to keep Marley inside as long as possible and also get to a hospital with a NICU. They transferred me via ambulance to the Carilion hospital in Roanoke and less than 8 hours from when my water broke Marley was here! It happened so fast there was no time for an epidural. Marley was born on May 22, 2022 at 1:55 am. She was 4lbs 8 oz and 18 inches. Dad cut the cord and we got to see her for a few seconds before they rushed her upstairs. She needed some help to get her lungs open so they put her on a CPAP and feeding tube. They couldn't get an IV in her so the tube was inserted into her umbilical cord. Even though we are 5 hours from home, we feel so fortunate being close to an excellent NICU hospital. The staff here is so kind and patient and willing to answer all 1001 questions.
