Welcome to Marlene's CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. In mid-August, Marlene had a seizure and fell unconscious. After an MRI and then biopsy, it was diagnosed that she had a Grade/Stage 4 brain tumor. It is not curable. She is choosing a path of palliative care focusing on relief from the symptoms and stress of the cancer and she is doing radiation and low dose chemotherapy to see if/how it might slow the progression of the cancer.
She is currently in the hospital for several weeks and would prefer no visitors at this time. In a few weeks, she will likely transition to a St. Paul care facility. Tom will join her in the assisted living wing there.
Son Tommy shares that Marlene is in a "good place" about what's happening; she has a spirit of acceptance and she's feeling peaceful about this difficult situation. Tommy says that the most helpful thing friends can do is send good wishes through the Thoughts and Well Wishes Guestbook section at this site (at the bottom of this homepage) or mail cards to the house: 466 S. Mississippi River Blvd, St. Paul 55105. (Cards will be delivered to her daily.) Daughter Carol will primarily be coordinating Marlene's (and Tom's) care. Tommy will be helping from Chicago and coming back to St. Paul frequently.
Marlene's fundraising 80th birthday party, benefiting Advocates for Human Rights, is still happening at the Kayser home on the afternoon of Sunday, 9/23. Marlene insists that it happen (of course she does:). We're hopeful she will be strong enough to be there. So many people love and appreciate Marlene; please send her back some of that love in the form of prayers, good wishes, loving guest book entries that will be shared with her daily, and send her a card!
