On September 28th mom started experiencing arm/chest pain, which got progressively worse throughout the day, into the evening. She called Tracey at around 10:00 p.m., requesting to go to the hospital.
When Tracey got there, it was quickly realized mom wouldn't be able to get to her car on her own and they needed to call an ambulance.
Mom started experiencing extreme shortness of breath, which sent her into a panic, because 1) it's scary to not be able to breathe, even when they're giving you oxygen and telling you your stats are fine, and 2) this is exactly what happened to her youngest sister, Cindy, who died a few years ago (mom was with her).
They were able to get her more comfortable (whatever that means) in the ambulance, then transported her to GICH.
They did all the "doctor" stuff and determined her heart was showing some new damage ("new" because - for those of you who don't know - mom has had numerous heart attacks [12? 13?] and bypass surgery, in the past. Somewhere around a decade ago).
They decided she needed to be cared for by a cardiologist, and gave her the choice of St. Luke's or St. Mary's in Duluth. She chose St Mary's.
