On Thursday, July 30, 2020, at 6:07 AM Mark was cycling and was hit by a Jeep Cherokee. Mark was heading west, and the driver of the vehicle was heading east and turned left to enter a highway entrance ramp. I was notified by the police at 10:08 AM, because they could not find his ID and emergency information. I believe the driver called 911. The fire truck arrived first, because their station is very close. The ambulance and police were right behind them.

Mark was not conscious when they took him to the emergency room. He has severe head trauma, fractured skull and left ulna (pinky side) and severe compound fracture of his left leg. They put him on a ventilator and in an induced coma. He spent two days in the emergency room with a trauma team, until a bed opened in the ICU. Mark is currently in the ICU where they have stopped sedating him. His left arm is splinted, and he has an external stabilizer on his left leg. When the neurologist and neurosurgeon feel he is ready, he will have surgery on his left leg. He is having small improvements each day so far. Every baby step is positive, but this will be a long road. The prayers are helping!
