Mark Dee Groven, 62 and father of 4. (ages 18-25) In 2014, Mark was diagnosed with Amyloidosis - "a rare and serious disease caused by accumulation of proteins in the form of abnormal, insoluble fibers, known as amyloid fibrils." (wikipedia). Its a form of cancer that has attacked his heart, kidneys and liver. There is no cure. Doctors estimated he had 6 months to live 2 1/2 years ago. The disease is progressing and he's been in and out of the University of Washington Medical Center several times between 2014-2016 as doctors seek to find the proper balance of meds, treatment and nutrition. He was placed in a nursing home for a little less than a month and then moved to an Adult Family Home which is where he currently resides. Hospice is in place as of a week and a half ago and we all are trying to give him the comfort care that he needs. Updates will be posted here as often as we are able.
