We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement during this time when it matters most. Mark went to the ER at FMC on January 13th after a visit to his doctor revealed an alarmingly high heart rate. At the ER, the doctors immediately diagnosed type I diabetes and did a CT scan, which showed masses in Mark's liver and pancreas. Mark was admitted to FMC, where he, Roxane and Katy spent the next three days anxiously awaiting results of a biopsy done on the mass in his liver while Mark had treatment to get his diabetes under control. The initial pathology report said the mass was a carcinoma. Ten days later, the oncologist explained that Mark has stage four cancer in his liver, pancreas, lymph nodes, and abdomen. Although the biopsy confirmed liver cancer, the oncologist thinks it's likely that Mark also has a second cancer, probably pancreatic, because the spread is unusual for liver cancer. He said Mark would likely only live for 2-4 months without a treatment and possibly another year with treatment. At this point, Mark and Roxane have two big goals-pursue the best treatment options and make sure that Mark has the best cancer ever, which means a lot of laughter, a lot of spiritual openness, and spending as much time as possible near Katy and the ocean.
We are so grateful to our wonderful friends and family who have surrounded us with caring and love. You're amazing.
