Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.

At the end of June, we went on a European cruise for Madelyn's Make-A-Wish trip. While on the trip, Mark began to experience severe back and stomach pain. Once we arrived home at the beginning of July, Mark had an MRI to find the cause of his back pain. The MRI revealed that he had cancer in his spine. After more tests, we found out that his cancer begun in the esophagus and spread to his stomach, liver, lymph nodes, and bone. The doctors determined that radiation could reduce the back pain before doing chemotherapy treatments. On Tuesday, August 7th, Mark went in for a routine appointment with a doctor regarding pain management but problems arose and he was taken to the emergency room. There, we found out he was no longer eligible for chemotherapy due to liver failure. On Thursday, August 9th, Mark was sent home for in-home hospice care.

Thank you for all your thoughts, prayers, love, and support. Over the course of Mark's journey, we will keep you all updated here on this site.
Love,
Kim, Madelyn, and Jack
