Welcome to our CaringBridge website. You may already know that Marion (our mom) was diagnosed with Breast Cancer during her annual mammogram last month. Discussing this unexpected diagnosis has been somewhat overwhelming for Mom so we are using this site to keep family and friends updated, allowing Mom to concentrate on healing.
We are extremely fortunate that her tumor was found early, measuring only 1 cm, grade 1. Marion and Richard have selected Dr. Tousimis, Chief of Breast Surgery at Georgetown, to perform the recommended lumpectomy. Dr. Tousimis and her team will also be administering Intraoperative Radiation during the surgery. This is a relatively new treatment where radiation is administered internally after the tumor is removed. It is our hope that no additional treatment will be necessary after the surgery.
