In August of 2019 a CT scan for an unrelated issue showed a spot in Marilyn's left lung.  After a PET scan and a few other tests it was determined that the spot was likely cancerous and it would be advantageous to surgically remove that portion of the lung.  At this point it was considered Stage 1, and it was expected that the surgery would completely remove the cancer and solve the issue. The surgery itself in early January went well and the recovery was smooth.  Unfortunately a number of the lymph nodes that were also removed during surgery tested positive, resulting in a diagnosis of Stage 3 lung cancer [specifically Adenocarcinoma of the lung].
