Marilyn had a severe fall from her bike on Sunday afternoon July 9 while in the Canadian Rockies with a group of friends that bike together in a different foreign country each summer; we'll never know what caused her fall, a mystery since she is a very experienced biker. Marilyn received a traumatic brain injury; her bike helmet took a lot of the impact and did it's job but she still hit pretty hard. She was unconscious when others got to her. She was life-flighted to a hospital in Edmonton AB where she was treated for a number of issues; Sam was there with her.
She broke a collar bone as well as small bones around one of her eyes; she had stitches around that eye. She cracked one of her neck bones so she needed to be in a neck brace. She also cracked her mandible (like mother like daughter). After 2 weeks in the hospital in Edmonton, Sam was able to have Marilyn medically flown from Edmonton to Kansas City where she was admitted to the KU Med Center.
