Marie was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in early February 2017. She began a regime of chemotherapy almost immediately. Marie had chemo treatments weekly for 4 months at the Methodist Hospital Cancer Center and in early June she had scans to determine the status of the cancer. Fortunately, the chemo had done its job - the scans showed that tumor had diminished significantly and there was no sign of spread of the cancer. We have been very impressed with care and professionalism shown by the team at Methodist. Because of the success of the chemo treatment, Marie is a excellent candidate for surgery (which is always a step in the treatment of pancreatic cancer). The surgery will be performed at the Mayo Clinic on June 29th. We anticipate a hospital stay of 4 or 5 days following surgery. We are now using CaringBridge as a way to keep our family member, our many friends, and our wonderful neighbors informed of Marie's progress through the surgery, through the recovery from surgery, and through any further chemo or radiation that may be recommended. With Marie's excellent health condition prior to the diagnosis, with the excellent medical support we are receiving from Methodist and Mayo, and with all the prayers and good wishes from so many family members and friends we feel both fortunate and optimistic. Although we understand the seriousness of this diagnosis, we truly feel this is just a little interruption in our lives and soon we will return to the times we love with our grandchildren, the travel we relish, and active lifestyle we have enjoyed.
