Marian was taken to the ER on 09 August. She had lost the ability to walk. They diagnosed her with a polyneuropathy disorder and did not feel they could help her. She was transferred and admitted to Atrium Health Navicent on 10 August. One week after lots of tests, MRI scans, CAT scans, a lumbar puncture and a EMG nerve test, her diagnosis became Guillain-Barré syndrome, or GBS. Marian spent a month in the ICU and was on a ventilator for 18 days. She spent an additional 2 weeks at Atrium trying to gain enough strength to be transferred to an acute rehab facility. After a week long battle with NaviHealth (a 3rd party entity that decides the fate of folks in need of rehab) Marian was transferred to the Shepherd Center. This is Marian’s journey through GBS to recovery.
