On February 11, 2019, Maria Nelson received a diagnosis of triple positive (TP) stage 2 metastatic breast cancer that has spread to at least one lymph node. This diagnosis was received a little more than 10 days after first discovering a lump in her breast. What has transpired in what seems like hours has been a whirlwind of further testing and education paralleled by the emotional highs and lows of a new reality. Our already close family has become even closer. Rallying to support each other…as we always do…without hesitation.
Now what? What do you do? How should you feel? What does this mean?
What we do know at this point is that Maria is embarking on a journey that none of us could have anticipated nor prepared for.
What we also know is that we have every reason to be optimistic and hopeful for a successful outcome. An unwavering faith in God and your prayers will be the main driving force for Maria as she takes on each day. She is also blessed to have an incredible team of cancer experts counseling and helping her navigate treatment.
What does that look like?
Treatment plans include:
- Chemotherapy treatments beginning on February 22
- After chemo, radiation and surgical options will be further evaluated

What you can do.
At this time, please keep Maria and her family in your thoughts and prayers. While this is an aggressive form of cancer, the good news is that it is also very treatable. There is a long road ahead and we will keep you updated through this page.
