Maria went to the ER in early April with shortness of breath. The CT scan of her chest showed blood clots in her lungs and a suspicious area in her upper abdomen. Her PCP ordered a CT scan of her abdomen, which showed an enlarged gallbladder, lesions on her liver and perineum, and lymph nodes that appeared to be cancerous. Maria was admitted to Iowa Methodist Medical Center and a biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of stage 4 gallbladder cancer.
