Friends . . . as you know, our dear sister, Margo, has recently been diagnosed with anal cancer. Our family is overcome with emotion. I personally have bouts of overwhelming sadness in anticipation of her treatments and discomfort. But "Gogo" is one strong woman, and we know she's got this . . .and we've got her back!
Marg was diagnosed with a 2T tumor that is slow growing. Her doctors are very optimistic because it was caught early and her PetScan showed that the cancer cells have not spread to other areas of her body. Surgery is not recommended but rather, she will undergo a series of aggressive chemo and radiation treatments that will range from 5-6 weeks in duration. She will have a "port" implanted and she will then wear a vest which administers continual chemotherapy doses. At this time, chemo will be week 1 and week 5 and radiation treatments will be 5 days a week for 5 weeks Margo, and the rest of the family, are very comfortable with her team of doctors and nurses at Scripps.
As we can all imagine, Marg is going to need our undying support. There is so much unknown . . .we are not sure if she will want/need to stay in San Diego during the week or make the daily drive so that she can sleep in her own bed at night. Her start date has yet to be determined but hoping it will be no later than June 20.
