Hi friends and family:

We’d like to give an update to you all about our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister, Margaret “Peggy” Onstad.

Always the adventurous one, Margaret was house sitting for a friend in Bigfork, MT and had planned a ski day at Blacktail Mountain on  March 12th, 2022. Unfortunately she suffered a major stroke while in the ski area parking lot. She became disoriented and got stuck in a snowbank where she was quickly discovered by another passing car. They asked if she needed any help and her condition was such that they ran to alert ski patrol who came to assist. Ski Patrol instantly recognized a stroke and called for a life flight helicopter to get her to Kalispell. She underwent emergency surgery that evening to remove blood from her brain and we have been praying for her recovery ever since.

A myriad of family converged on Kalispell to support her and monitor her health. After some initial encouraging signs (e.g., squeezing Vince’s hand upon hearing his voice), she has been largely unresponsive the past few days. After conferring with doctors, praying, and in consideration of Margaret’s long stated wishes, the family has made the decision to move her to hospice care in her home town of Great Falls, where she supported many others under similar circumstances throughout her career in healthcare.

We wish we had better news to share and also know how much Margaret is loved by all that know her, so we wanted to get this sad news out to her friends and family.

We will continue to post updates on her health here.

Sincerely, Mike, Pat, Vince, and Pete
