Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Here is a basic synopsis of what has happened: Margaret collapsed in a grocery store on Saturday October 27th and was taken by ambulance to Missouri Baptist Medical Center. A few days later, after an MRI, doctors determined that she had suffered two strokes- one in the grocery store that day and another one at an undetermined time. In the process of treating her, doctors found some issues involving her heart. She had open heart surgery on Thursday November 1st during which doctors replaced a valve, did a bypass, and addressed a potential third issue. She came through the procedure beautifully but doctors determined that she needed a pacemaker to regulate her heart function. The pacemaker was installed on Monday November 5th. On Friday the 9th she was moved to acute rehab, but she suffered a setback on Tuesday November 13th, when doctors discovered she had fluid around her heart. She was taken back to surgery to remove a half liter of fluid from the area. Since then, doctors have removed fluid from the area around her lungs as well. However she is steadily improving now. She returned to rehab on Wednesday November 21st where she is expected to remain for 1-2 weeks. At this time, it is best for her to have no visitors.
