In late October 2018 I was feeling an unusual tenderness in my abdomen. After having an ultrasound in January 2019, nothing appeared out of the ordinary. Then in late October 2019, my doctor found an abdominal mass during my routine physical. After some testing, it was determined that this mass is a benign tumor, angiomyolipoma, which is growing off of my right kidney. It is 6 inches wide and takes up most of my right abdomen, pressing against several other organs.
After delays from the COVID pandemic, I am now moving toward my surgery date of June 11. The plan is to completely remove the tumor through an incision down my mid-line. They will try to save my kidney, since it is completely healthy, but this will be determined during the surgery procedure.
I am thankful that the time has arrived and have confidence in my surgeon and in Father God's love. Normal recovery is 3-5 days in the hospital, then approximately 6 weeks of healing.
