In October 2017 Marcia was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. At diagnosis the cancer was in her lung, lymph nodes and bones. She began a target therapy treatment called Tagrisso which was a once a day pill. This treatment worked for the first several months with CT scans showing the tumors had shrunk. With the 2 latest CT scans (April and June) showing the cancer had grown, the doctor recommended she stop Tagrisso and begin chemotherapy. At the very beginning of this journey knowing lung cancer is treatable not curable, quality of life was always the goal. The family all agreed not to pursue chemotherapy treatment and keep the goal on quality of life and comfort care.
