Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Our little Bucky has been at the Randall Pediatrics ICU since Sat 9/24. He got Rhinoentero virus, which I'm told is a common viral type cold, but for some reason Malcolm's lungs are very reactive. He has quite a bit of fluid in his lungs and was struggling to breathe. He is now intubated on a ventilator. He was fighting so much with the other breathing treatments they were trying to give him, that it was making the condition worse. He is very heavily sedated. The prognosis is good, it is now a matter of waiting for his body and lungs to recover and steadily begin breathing on his own. It is a tricky balance; those of you who know Malcolm know how active he is, and the less sedate he is the more active he becomes - wanting to get all the tubes and everything away from him. Drs say this is a tough age to manage this condition because you can't explain to a 16 month old that they should rest.

We have been told to expect to be in the ICU 5-7 days and then the regular hospital for a bit, maybe 2-3 days. Thank you everyone for all of your support.
