This website is being started for our amazing, loving, strong mother, Lynne Zimmerman,  so that we can have one place to update info that family and friends can visit, offer support, words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Last month, around July 4th, Mom had noticed she hadn't been feeling the best. She had been feeling more tired and had a "nagging cough" that just wouldn't improve.  A week later she was feeling worse and decided she should make a doctor's appointment.  Without much improvement she was in and out of the doctors office several times over the next couple weeks and ended up being transferred to Mason City Hospital on Saturday, July 29th, 2017.  She was diagnosed with pneumonia and was scheduled for further testing in the upcoming days. She had a bone marrow biopsy done on Tuesday, August 1st.  We got the preliminary bone marrow reports the next day, August 2nd, with results of Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). These results were not what we wanted to hear as this is an aggressive form of blood cancer BUT the hopeful words that stuck out from the Hematologists' news was that it is a CURABLE form of cancer with appropriate treatment. That evening Mom was transferred from Mason City Hospital to Methodist Hospital Mayo Clinic, in Rochester, MN. We have been here since and are amazed at this place and how quick, efficient and professional this place and all the staff have been. We know we are at the BEST place for Mom to get the care she needs to get through this hurdle that has been thrown in her path.  The hurdle we are facing at this moment that has taken priority to the AML, is that this pneumonia/lung infection is not resolving, so chemo is not able to begin until her lung infection starts to show improvements. Today is Friday, August 4th, and plans are to have a broncoscopy today to try to get a better idea of what infection we are fighting to get this on the mend so she can begin the next hurdle of starting chemo and beginning her fight! As you all know...our Mother is THE STRONGEST WOMAN WE'VE EVER KNOWN, and her attitude and spirit have continued to shine, even from the moment the "C" word was first mentioned. As spoken straight from Mom's mouth, "I have a lot to fight for and believe me, I'm going to fight!"
