Lu-Ann Hickey

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

For those of you who know Lu-Ann call her Lulu. Just like her name she is short and sweet, unique, fun and full of life!

Lulu is the most strong, caring, selfless person I have ever known!  Lulu has been married to her husband Bobby for the past 33 years and they have two amazing grown children!  Ryan is employed as a Firefighter and Paramedic and Shannon who is employed as an RN.   Lulu is self employed as a house cleaner.  She has been very devoted to her job and her many loyal customers for the past 20 years.  Because of the physical nature of her job, Lulu will not be able to work as she undergoes her treatment.

Family is most important to Lulu!!  She loves her family to the depths of her soul!

On June 28th Lulu got the devastating diagnosis of    Invasive Ductile Carcinoma Breast Cancer.   Lulu will be receiving eight rounds of Chemotherapy, she will then have surgery and radiation therapy.   It is going to be a long, tough road for her but with the love and support of her family and friends she is determined to beat this horrible disease!

Lulu had an appointment with her Oncologist last Wednesday and he told her he discovered a receptor site on the cancer cells, this is called HER2 positive which means two things:

First, that the cancer is more aggressive than originally thought and Second, that there is an effective and targeted treatment.

Lulu will be receiving her third of eight rounds of chemotherapy this week which consists of very strong drugs.  On weeks 5,6,7&8 they will be giving her the two drugs that target the HER2.  She will be receiving those drugs along with the chemotherapy once a week. Once the chemotherapy is done she will be having surgery followed by radiation therapy.

As Lulu’s family we will never be able to express how much your love, support and generosity has meant to all of us and has helped Lulu focus on the most important thing, her recovery!!

I will be posting updates from a sisters point of view while Lulu’s kids, Ryan and Shannon will be posting updates from a medical standpoint.

Please feel free to leave comments and positive words to Lulu and as always please send your prayers!!

Thank you!  Barbara
