Jackson Perdue Loving the Perdue’s

First post: Aug 1, 2022 Latest post: Aug 22, 2022
As many of you know, Jackson Perdue, was diagnosed with brain cancer in October 2015. His journey over the last seven years has been arduous, but— thanks be to God— not without hope.  Jackson would often write about this hope—  his hope in Jesus’ perfect life, death on the cross for our sins, and resurrection— on his personal blog (http://jacksonperdue.com/) which documents parts of his health journey and so clearly attests to God’s goodness, all the time, even in the midst of great suffering.

If you are reading this, you have likely heard the sad and difficult news that Jackson’s time on this earth is very limited. While we know that this life is not the end and that after Jackson’s last breath on earth, he will be with Jesus, fully restored and wholly himself for all eternity, we deeply grieve this earthly goodbye.

In light of this news and the questions that have already so lovingly poured in asking about how to best support Jackson, Janelle and their girls— Belle, Juliette, and Fiona, during this time we wanted to create this page to offer some ideas that we have come up with, together with Janelle:

1. Pray. We do not offer this lightly and wholly believe that this is our most urgent need. We desperately need and want to see Jesus as even more beautiful, more glorious, and more sustaining during this time. And we know, with unwavering confidence, that this is what Jackson would most want for us, his family, and all who know and love him.

“Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews‬ ‭4:14-16‬
2. Share encouraging words and/or Scripture through the Well Wishes” tab on this website. We would like this page to be a space where Janelle and the girls can come back to when they need to be comforted, pointed to truth, the beauty of the gospel, and the lasting hope we have in Jesus.

3. Gift cards for groceries. Due to varying diets this is a welcome way, in lieu of a meal train, to contribute to meeting a practical need. They shop at Target, Sprouts, and Amazon Fresh. Please email gift cards to Janelle at (jemperdue@gmail.com).

4. Donate to this Go Fund Me (https://gofund.me/795dbefd) which has been set up to help pay for the cost of hiring caregivers when Jackson begins needing 24/7 personal bedside care. Though Janelle and family plan to provide much of this care, there will be a need for hours of respite care as Jackson’s needs grow more complex.

If you have any questions about these things please feel free to reach out to us via email at lovingtheperdues@gmail.com

And last, we want to leave you with this encouragement:

“But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words.”
‭‭1 Thessalonians‬ ‭4:13-18‬ ‭
