Hello Everyone! My name is Erica I am 30 years old as of February 11th. I was put on the national transplant list November 14th, 2016 for a double lung transplant. I need one due to being born premature I only weighed 1 pound, 1 ounce and 11 inches long after birth I dropped down to 15 ounces. Doctors had only given me less then a 10% chance of survival. I had even scared my family when they received the call I had passed away so they were preparing for my funeral but when they got to the hospital I was alive and still fighting. Since I was born so early my lungs never developed properly and being on a ventilator for 6 months did not help either. I had developed a lung disease called Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia which started giving me a lot of problems at 14 years old. So in 2001 my summer was spent doing pulmonary rehab to get stronger my lung capacity then was only 27%. 6 years later at 23 I started to go downhill again and the doctor felt I wouldn't live without a transplant because of how fast I was going downhill. At that time I was too scared and didn't understand the transplant process enough to decide it was the best choice for myself. Now I am older and at my sickest and tired of living this way for sure. My second home has become the hospital but I am still trying to keep my head up regardless. I am doing this site to try and get the word out more that I will need help financially for medical expenses and living. After transplant I will be in the hospital probably about 3 weeks and even after I have to stay in PA. I am more than 2 hours so I have to stay close to the hospital. Hope you can help but if not that is okay too prayers and good thoughts always do wonders. I hope you have a wonderful day and thank you for stopping by my page.
