Welcome to the CaringBridge pages for our Mom, Lorraine Koch. We are using it to keep family and friends updated through a single, central location. Hopefully, you understand that we will not be able to make individual calls to update all of you.  CaringBridge is a free site and it is designed to allow us to provide updates to all, so please check back here frequently. We sincerely appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.  Most of all, we need your prayers, so keep them coming and thank you for visiting.   Please explore the options on this site.  For example, you can set it up so you will be notified when we post an update. Feel free to share the link with others who know us.

Lorraine's current situation is this:  On July 21st, she had a liver biopsy taken. On July 31st, she saw her oncologist for the results. The oncologist confirmed liver cancer. It is called Metastatic Large Cell Neuroendocrine Carcinoma.  Surgery is not recommended because this is a fast spreading tumor and it can easily be transported through the bloodstream to other sites in her body. Surgery would increase this opportunity.  The alternative to surgery in her case is chemotherapy, which, as I am sure you all know, consists of a combination of drugs that are toxic to the tumor.  Unfortunately, they are also toxic to human beings and Mom will likely feel ill from them.  She will lose her hair, plus assorted other symptoms.  Mom will have a medport put in on August 8th.  This device allows for ready access to administer the chemo over the entire course of treatment. Chemotherapy will begin the week of August 14th. She will have 4 total sessions of chemo. It will consist of  three hours at a time, three consecutive days a week with a three week break in between each session. She will have blood work done before each chemo treatment to see how the tumor is responding.

Your prayers carried mom through the treatment of her lung cancer, and for this we are thankful. We ask that you keep Lori in your prayers as she begins her tough fight next week.  Please pray for strength, wisdom and peace.  Thanks!

If you feel called to, we would be more than appreciative of a donation, so that the financial burden is one less thing for her to worry about. She lives alone and doesn't have much and never asks for much either, so we're asking for her. Anything helps. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. https://www.gofundme.com/lori-kochs-fight-against-cancer
