My journey with disabling back issues began on May 20, 2013 with a Cervical Fusion. There were a few challenges with this procedure as the surgeon had to remove hardware from a previous surgery in 2001 that proved to be rather stubborn. After making my way through the healing process from the neck surgery - in August I began to have rather severe issues with my lower back, and it was not going away. After trying Physical Therapy, Epidural Injections and just trying to live with it, after loosing my feeling in my legs I opted to have a "quick and easy surgery" (or at least that is what my surgeon said), to take the pressure off of my L5-S1 nerve, and it was anticipated that all would go well and I would be back to normal in 2 to 3 weeks. Well, unfortunately things did not go as planned in that quick and easy surgery. Since that surgery I have had 3 additional back surgeries, however I have continued to experience debilitating pain which brings us to this portion of my journey.
On Tuesday June 19, 2018 I will have the first of two surgeries to perform a 3 level Spinal Fusion, remove a number of bone spurs, widen my spinal canal where spinal stenosis has set in, and remove two implants - one is a Spinal Chord Stimulator that is no longer working correctly, and the other is an Intrathecal Pain Pump that has been disabled as it was not providing pain relief. The first surgery will be performed through my abdomen, and the second surgery on July 2, 2018 will be performed through my back.
I set up this site to create a means to provide updates to friends and family over the next couple of weeks as I go through the two surgeries and the initial recovery. I ask for your prayers, and that you keep me in your thoughts. I am looking forward to a great result from the upcoming surgeries, and I am confident that God is in control. My Doctors names for the June 19th surgery are Dr. Stephano Sinicropi a Spine Surgeon, and Dr. John Shearen a Vascular Surgeon. Please be praying for Dr. Sinicropi and Dr. Shearen - that God would guide their work and through these surgical procedure there would be healing in my body and I will experience a quick recovery process.
Thank you all for your care of me...either I or others of my family will provide updates along the pathway in the next couple of weeks.
