Welcome to Loretta's CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place as she journeys through treatment for stage 3B lung cancer. As a little background, Loretta had pneumonia mid-December. The chest x-ray taken at that time showed a spot on her lung which was followed up with a chest CT scan and then a lung biopsy. The diagnosis is adenocarcinoma, the most common type of non-small cell lung cancer. After the biopsy results, a PET scan showed lymph node involvement in her chest. She then had a thoracoscopy (VAT's procedure) to determine the extent of the cancer which showed chest wall invasion into the mediastinum. This extension of the cancer outside the lung makes it inoperable. The treatment plan is chemotherapy and radiation.
