Loie Riehl has lung cancer. She got the diagnosis on Nov. 28, 2016, and to say it was a surprise would be an understatement. Yes, a cancer diagnosis is always a surprise, but lung cancer was the last thing anyone Loie or her family expected.
Her symptoms began earlier in the fall, with shortness of breath and loss of appetite. The symptoms were treated, but nothing quite worked. After visiting family in San Diego, Loie came back to St. Louis in early November and headed straight to the urgent care. Two pulmonary emboli and pneumonia were causing problems breathing . After a few days in the hospital, she went home. But a couple weeks later, with her breathing troubles persisting, Loie found herself in the hospital over Thanksgiving weekend with multiple liters of fluid drained from her lung, and suspicious particles in the discharge.
On Monday, Nov. 28, Loie and her family got the official diagnosis - Stage 4 adenocarcinoma.
Now Loie is ready to battle what she calls "the devil in her lung," and she feeds off the love from her family and friends. Loie is loved by many, and she needs our prayers, encouragement and support as she "fights like a bear" against lung cancer.
