On the morning of June 30, 2017, while concluding a great family vacation to the Outer Banks, Rod & Lin packed up to head for home due to some severe pain Lin was having. The pain started on June 29 but continued to worsen.
On the way home, they stopped in Chesapeake, VA to be seen in the emergency room. A CT scan noted Lin's left kidney to be bleeding. Another CT was ordered, this time with contrast, to get a better look. It was this scan that found and confirmed our nightmare: a large tumor on the left kidney and several small lesions on the liver. From here Lin was transferred to Norfolk, VA to, at the very least, obtain a plan of care.
She continued to have intermittent pain, and once her pain was somewhat controlled and minimal, she was discharged on the morning of July 2. Lin and Rod started the long trek back to Ohio, making frequent stretching stops on the way. They made it home, and Lin's pain was fairly controlled.
