Welcome to my CaringBridge website. I am using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. Thank you for visiting!
I have a lung disease called bronchiectasis. It is a scarring in my lungs which leads to frequent infections. I have had an infection called Pseudomonas for at least 10 years. Pseudomonas is extremely hard to eradicate and can easily develop resistance to antibiotics. I was able to avoid most antibiotic use until the Spring of 2016 when my Pseudomonas flared up dramatically. Since then I have been hospitalized on 5 occasions and required over 9 weeks of IV antibiotics. I have developed resistance to many antibiotics. I have also developed allergies to several important antibiotics. Each flare up of infection can increase the damage to the lungs. This summer I started the use of supplemental oxygen as needed.
My doctors now feel it is an appropriate time to seek a double lung transplant. I have been traveling to the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle every few months to see specialists there. My transplant would be done there in Seattle. In a few weeks I will have a series of tests and appointments in Seattle to determine my place on the transplant list.
