Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

In April of this year, mom found a lump behind her ear. She went to many appointments, that led her to  a specialist at Mayo.  After a biopsy it was discovered that the lump was cancer.  On September 6th, the tumor was mostly removed leaving an impressive incision.  The tumor was larger than expected and identified as adenoid cystic carcinoma.  Its the type of cancer that is treatable but not curable.  This type of cancer grows along the nerves and can show up years later in the lungs and other spots. Mom is exercising her facial muscles daily to help the muscle memory.  It is not uncommon to have facial paralysis after the surgery she experienced.  Her left side is the affected side.  Her eye is the most important to pay attention to in the recovery process.  It could take up to 9 months to regain movement on the left side including her tongue.  Due to the partial paralysis, it makes talking more difficult.
After a handful of more appointments, mom will begin a 6 weeks of radiation (five days a week) along with chemotherapy one day a week during the 6 weeks.
It is our hope that this site can be a place where friends and family can stay updated on moms journey and this can be a site of encouragement to mom in the months to come.
